A 458 Speciale successor is currently taking shape behind closed doors at Maranello. Dubbed the Ferrari 488 GTO, the new model will be the most hardcore V8 Ferrari ever and will rival the likes of the upcoming Porsche 911 GT2.
The recipe is simple- create a lightweight, agile and powerful Ferrari supercar based on the 488 platform. Like the 458 Speciale, the 488 GTO will use a lot of carbon fiber to save weight. The interior will be stripped out of all the unnecessary bulk. A rigid structure and revised chassis setup should result in highly responsive handling, something that the Speciale was known for.
The 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 will most certainly be re-tuned in order to extract more performance. By current estimates, the 488 GTO could have up to 700 hp along with an increase in torque as well. The lightweight 488 GTO is expected to be pretty quick and we might even see it improve on the Speciale’s Fiorano lap time.
Like its predecessor, the 488 GTO will be a limited production model. A 488 GTO Aperta might be offered later down the line. The latest set of spy shots don’t reveal much. That said, we hope to see the production body on future test mules.
