Early reports suggest that the top-of-the-line all-electric Porsche Taycan will churn out over 700 horses, thanks to its overboost function.
In a few days from now, the all-electric Porsche Taycan sedan will be unveiled to the world. This is beyond doubt the most crucial launch for Porsche in its history – an EV with the performance and efficiency to take on the reigning champion – Tesla. It even lapped the Nurburgring recently in record time for a car of its kind.
Prior to the launch, some of the major automotive media houses got to drive and review the Taycan. The first impressions have started surfacing on the respective sites. Autocar’s report in particular, caught our attention.
In addition to the tamer versions, the Taycan EV will come in Turbo and Turbo S variants empowered with 90 kWh batteries, dual-motors, and all-wheel-drive. Though it doesn’t make much sense to slap on “Turbo” name tags on electric cars, it’ll definitely keep the customers pleased. Everyone loves to have “Turbo” on the stuff that they buy – even if it’s a manual razor. The same rule applies here as well. Plus, you know how much Porsche adores the “Turbo” reference.
Here’s is the titular interesting bit. Both Turbo models churn out the equivalent of 600 hp and come with an overboost function which will boost power for a short span of time – 2.5 seconds to be exact. But the Turbo S got away with the better deal of the two. It can boost its output to 700 hp and 750 lb-ft. Ample to propel the flagship variant to 62 mph in less than 3 seconds.
Ceramic brakes, all-wheel steering, 21-inch wheels with superior tires and an upgraded suspension add more value and punch to the overall package that the Turbo S offers.
