You always expect to see some really exotic stuff at the Gumball 3000 annual car rally for the uber rich. This year, apart from the usual line of supercars, one particular team is expected to get a lot of attention on the road to Bucharest.
Team Betsafe will be driving a Formula 1 car at this year’s Gumball 3000. Of course, it has been modified to be street legal. It’s powered by a V8 engine and weighs around 1400 lbs dry. It even has a KERS system for that additional power boost. Team Betsafe couldn’t build an actual F1 car from scratch. So they borrowed a few bits like the Brembo brakes, OZ racing wheels and steering wheel from Sauber F1.
The 2016 edition of the Gumball 3000 flags off from Dublin and will finish in the Romanian capital. The cops keep a close eye on the participants throughout the rally and this year Team Betsafe can expect to get some unwanted attention during the trip across Europe.
We’re not sure how comfortable it will be to drive an F1 car across Europe. Well, at least it will fast. The driver might need a replacement spine if he survives the rally.
