Work on Aston Martin Valkyrie exterior is finished and the car has been signed off for production.
It seems Adrian Newey’s pursuit for perfection with the Aston Martin Valkyrie has come to an end. As Autocar reports, Aston Martin’s new hypercar has been given the green light for production. The most fascinating news to come out of it is that several components and materials used on the finished model are more advanced than those used on the latest F1 cars!
Developed by Red Bull Racing’s Adrian Newey along with the Aston Martin design center in Gaydon, the Valkyrie’s exterior shape is focused on aerodynamics with only small tweaks and adjustments made for aesthetic reasons. Last year, we saw a Valkyrie development model that the company executives said was 95% close to the production model. Back then, Adrian Newey was still tweaking and squeezing aerodynamic performance out of the exterior. Now that his work is finished, we expect a reveal of the latest and final iteration of the Valkyrie soon, perhaps at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2018.
Signing off the Valkyrie for production represented “a huge milestone”, according to Andy Palmer, Aston’s CEO who described managing the expectations of Newey, Reichman and production boss David King last year as the “toughest but best challenge to have”. Meanwhile, Palmer still stands by his initial promise of lapping the Valkyrie on Silverstone faster than an F1 car.
While the work in the wind tunnel might have finished, the real world road tests are yet to commence and we expect few changes made to the car till then. Aston and Red Bull Racing will start making the planned run of 150 cars later this year. The first Valkyries are scheduled to be delivered during 2019 with each car costing £2.5 million or $3.37 million.
Have we been more more excited about a car? Probably not.
