We can finally put speculations of a Bugatti SUV to rest as Stephen Winkelmann, the brand’s CEO has announced that his company won’t be building an SUV. Winkelmann made the announcement at the end of the press release that was intended to list the brand’s accomplishments for 2018 and its plans for 2019.
“Although speculation is rife and the time appears to be appropriate, there will be no SUV from Bugatti”, says Stephan Winkelmann. “An SUV would not do justice to the brand or its history”, he added.
With this announcement, Bugatti (thankfully) joins McLaren in the tiny list of supercar makers that have restrained from building an SUV (Not counting boutique automakers like Koenigsegg and Pagani). While SUVs from Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce and Bentley are already on the roads, those from Ferrari and Aston Martin will arrive by late next year.
In the same release, Bugatti revealed that 76 Chirons left its factory last year and the production of the 500 cars has been allocated until 2021.
While the plans for an SUV might have been put on back burners, Winkelmann and his team are working on a few surprises for us. In the release, Bugatti mentions that for its 110th Anniversary this year, the company will be hosting a number of events for its customers, including a grand tour of places where Ettore Bugatti was active, as well as “presenting further models.”
