It looks like the mid-engined C8 Corvette may have set a sub-8 minute Nurburgring lap time.
According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, the C8 Corvette was able to complete a hot lap of the Green Hell in relatively favorable weather conditions. The unofficial time is said to be 7 min 28.30 seconds!
The car used to set the lap time had the Z51 performance pack, which adds 5 hp and 5 lb-ft over the standard spec. While it doesn’t sound much, it adds crucial upgrades like Brembo brakes, rear spoiler, Michelin PS4 summer tires, electronic limited-slip differential, front splitter, performance exhaust, and FE3 performance suspension. And, when you’re tackling one of the toughest racetracks on the planet, a few chassis upgrades make a lot of difference.
So, how does the C8’s lap time compare with other variants of the C7 Corvette?
The C8 Corvette is faster than the C7 Stingray with the Z51 package. As this is just an unofficial time, it could might go even quicker. Moreover, the C8 is more than 18 seconds slower than the C7 Corvette Z06 and over 24 seconds slower than the previous gen Corvette ZR1.
