EXCLUSIVE: More Info on the Mercedes-AMG Project One

The Mercedes-AMG Project One was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. However, there has been no word from Mercedes since. Our sources tell us that the production-spec Project One could be revealed later this month or perhaps at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October. We can also expect Mercedes to announce the final name of the car.

In addition to the road car, Mercedes is also planning to build 25-50 units of a track-only version. It could rival the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro. Further, the company was also contemplating an open-top variant, limited to just 5-10 units. Both these projects are currently being evaluated and no final decision has been made yet.

We have been told that Mercedes has invited customers to spec their cars as it’s now ready to enter production. The road car will be powered by a 1.6-litre, turbocharged V6 hybrid derived from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 car. The hybrid powertrain is expected to produced upwards of 1000 hp. It is claimed to reach 62 mph in 2.6 seconds. However, we have learned that 0-124 mph will be over in 5.6 seconds. Like the Valkyrie, the Project One is also likely to get a “Qualification” mode.

Mercedes-Benz is building just 275 units of the road car and 55 of them are coming to the US. Base price of one of these is in the range of $2.5 million.
