Audi has revealed the R8 V10 Plus Competition Package. The limited edition model is the most performance-oriented production R8 ever produced. Audi hasn’t announced how many units it’s building but only 10 units are destined for the US, so production numbers must be pretty limited.
While output from the naturally aspirated V10 remains the same at 610 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, Audi has worked hard to reduce vehicle weight and increase downforce over the V10 Plus. Without disclosing the exact weight figure, Audi points out that the 20-inch fully milled wheels help save 26.4 pounds whereas 2.2 pounds is saved by using titanium backing plates for the carbon ceramic brake pads. A number of components are now made from carbon fiber including the fixed rear wing, side sills, front spoiler, flics and rear diffuser.
The full carbon fiber aero kit not only offers an aggressive look to the R8, but increases downforce. At 150 km/h (93.2 mph), the downforce is doubled compared to an R8 V10 Plus coupe to 52 kg (114.6 pounds). At its top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph), the downforce is increased by 100 kg (220.5 pounds) to 250 kg (551.2 pounds).
All ten units of the 2019 Audi R8 V10 Plus Competition will come pre-configured with Suzuka Gray exterior color and Black racing shell seats with red contrast stitching and full leather package inside. The grille surround, front lower air inlets and rear air outlets are finished in black. The interior features a Bang & Olufsen 13-speaker sound system, carbon fiber shift handles and steering wheel with Alcantara wrap with a 12 o’clock marker.
Pricing for the R8 V10 Plus Competition Package starts at $238,600 which is a $43,000 premium over the standard V10 Plus. Deliveries will begin next month.
