Mercedes-AMG Project One might destroy the ultimate Nurburgring lap record.
Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers has told the media that the Project One hypercar will challenge the fastest ever lap time set at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The current record is 6 min 11.1 seconds which was set by Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956 back in 1983 and not a single car has come close to beating it ever since. According to Moers, the main challenge is “finding the right driver”.
This shows how confident the Mercedes boss is when it comes the Project One setting the fastest lap of the ‘Ring. He has also hinted that the supercar could be built in the UK where their Formula 1 team is based. As you know, the Project One uses the same hybrid engine as the F1 car. The combustion engine alone produces around 1000 hp. Besides, the car is expected to weigh around 1350 kg, while the bodywork is likely to produce about 675 kg of downforce.
Mercedes will be building just 275 examples of their ultimate supercar with each costing about $2.5 million. The car was recently showcased at Amelia Island. Checkout that video below.
