Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is Faster than a BMW M2 CS at Hockenheim

A BMW M2 CS stands no chance of beating a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, at least at Hockenheim.

In a recent test conducted by Sport Auto, a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 lapped the circuit 8 seconds quicker than an M2 CS. It posted a time of 1 min 55.0 seconds, while the M2 CS completed the lap in 1.55.80 seconds. Therefore, it seems the mid-engined Porsche is more suited for Hockenheim than the front-engined BMW.

What’s more interesting is the fact that the Cayman GT4 was also quicker than the Honda NSX, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, Mercedes-AMG GT S and the new BMW M5 Competition.

The 718 Cayman GT4 is powered by a 4.0-liter, flat-six engine. Unlike the M2 CS, it doesn’t come with turbochargers. Besides, it has a 6-speed manual gearbox instead of a dual-clutch automatic which can be slightly heavier. In terms of performance, the engine delivers 414 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It achieves 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds and will reach a top speed of 189 mph.

So, if you’ve just placed an order for a brand new BMW M2 CS, well, don’t take it to Hockenheim.

Earlier this year, Sport Auto did a hot lap of the Nurburgring in a Ferrari 488 Pista. You can watch that video here.
