A Porsche exec confirmed the manufacturer’s plans for launching a Cayenne Coupe E-Hybrid later this year.
Amidst rumors of a Lamborghini Urus V8-powered Porsche Cayenne Coupe being developed, Porsche has informed the media that a hybrid version of the SUV is on its way to the dealerships this year. A Porsche exec told car journos at an Austria event about the company’s plans to launch the Porsche Cayenne Coupe E-Hybrid in 2019.
The current list of Cayenne Coupe variants comprises of a 335 hp V6-powered base model, a 434 hp S model, and the flagship Turbo model with a 541 hp V8 engine. The hybrid will be joining the team as the powertrain from the Cayenne E-Hybrid takes over propulsion duties – a turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 aided by a 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery and electric motor churning out 455 hp and 516 lb-ft.
Positioning the E-Hybrid in between the S and Turbo variants will be a good beginning. However, Porsche may also expand the hybrid variants list to accommodate a higher-performance model which will borrow the 680 hp V8 hybrid employed in the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe is set to land in US dealerships this fall. As for the hybrid models, we still got to wait a bit longer before the manufacturer makes an official announcement.
