Porsche was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche as a motor vehicle development and consulting firm. Their first project was the Volkswagen Beetle, however the first model to bear the Porsche badge didn’t arrive until 1939.
Today, Porsche is part of the Volkswagen Group and builds one of the most famous sports cars on the planet- the 911. The model has been in production since 1963 with a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Modern 911s retain the rear-mounted engine of the original but are liquid cooled. The familiar shape of the 911 has evolved over the years into a sports coupe that enthusiasts love.
The 911 GT3 and GT3 RS are the high-performance models that evolved out of the 911 range. At the lower end, the Boxster and Cayman have started using turbocharged engines in place of naturally aspirated units. Meanwhile, Porsche has also branched into SUVs with the Cayenne and Macan.
