The upcoming all-electric Porsche Taycan sedan took the record for the fastest electric four-door car around the Nurburgring.
Completing the 12.8-mile Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 42 seconds, the Porsche Taycan has claimed the record for the fastest all-electric four-door car on the Nordschleife track. This record has come across as the perfect way to demonstrate the car’s performance while the Nardo high-speed track testing replies to all questions on endurance.
Stefan Weckbach, vice president product line Taycan, had this to say about the record-breaking run.
“The Taycan mastered its Triple Endurance Run superbly. First, our electric sports car demonstrated the reproducibility of its performance as part of a strenuous test involving 26 successive acceleration runs from zero to 200 km/h. Then it completed 3,425 kilometers within 24 hours in Nardò without any issues and now the record at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Numerous factors contribute to this performance and the efficiency of the powertrain, also at high speeds. These include the chassis systems that react within a fraction of a second, as well as the outstanding aerodynamics.”
The pre-series prototype Taycan hit the track with Lars Kern behind the wheel, after extensive simulator tests conducted by development engineers on a virtual version of the Green Hell. These tests aided the team in evaluating the electric sedan’s performance before the actual run itself.
Set to compete directly with the Tesla Model S, the Porsche Taycan will make its official debut in September. Porsche is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to testing the product as well as in marketing the many abilities of its candidate. The carmaker really has to bring it’s A-game in order to make a mark in the competitive performance EV segment.
